Pete Mann, parishioner and instructor at Wilkes Community College, will lead the Adult Forum beginning February 21 through March 21 at 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall. Pete’s topic will be a different world religion each Sunday: An introduction on 2/21, Hinduism on 2/28, Judaism on 3/7, Christianity on 3/14, and Islam on 3/21.
Adult Education classes are offered both on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. During the academic year, Sunday classes meet at 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall. The classes cover various topics in theology, scripture, spiritual formation, faith and culture. The Coffee Club also meets at 9:30 AM in the Parish Hall, on the lower level. It is an informal discussion and information class for parents and other interested adults. On Wednesday evenings there is an adult book study class that meets following the Chez Paul supper. There are also special Wednesday evening offerings during the seasons of Advent and Lent.
St. Paul’s offers an Education for Ministry (EFM) group from 9:30-12:30 on Thursday mornings. EFM is a group of laypersons who meet weekly to pursue a four-year course of study in a small-group setting. The curriculum includes the study of scriptures, church history, and theology.
Centering Prayer Wednesdays at 4:15 PM in the Chapel
We may think of prayer as thoughts and feelings expressed in words, but this is only one expression. In the Christian tradition, Centering Prayer is a way to pray without words in silence. It is the opening of the mind and heart—our whole being—to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words, and emotions.
The weekly Centering Prayer Group encourages and supports those who desire to grow in daily practice of this prayer. Anyone interested in learning about this ancient way of praying are invited to attend the weekly group at any time.
